Gary's first win in 1973 |
History:
Gary Davis first rode a dirt bike at the age of
ten. Two years later, in 1973, he raced for the first
time. His racing career ran short however, cars, girls and
other activities led to his motorcycle racing demise.
Gary's
parents were trail riders at the time, but it was
some of the more aggressive men in the club who began to do some
racing that got Gary into it. On one Sunday, Gary was
invited to go and watch his first motocross race with a friend
of his parents. The older gentleman had his daughter's
Yamaha Mini Enduro in back of his pick-up along with his Desert
Master and asked Gary if he wanted to race. Gary raced on
this Sunday and won his first race, which was the first time
he'd ever watch motocross racing.
Now fast forward
30 years….. Gary heard about a Vintage MX Event called “The
First Annual Diamond Don’s Riverport National” and thought
that it would be cool to drive up 3 hours to check it out.
It was a life changing experience, to say the least. He
was so impressed with the guys that were in their 50’s and 60’s
that had such a youthful spirit about them that he knew
immediately that he wanted to be a part of this happenings.
Just as soon as he got back from this event, he started buying
and building bikes. The first was a Husky, then a Bultaco,
then another Bultaco, are you seeing a trend yet? Soon
thereafter, he and some buddies had a “Balls to the Wall Racing
Team” banner made and were in business!
The newly formed
team went to their first race five months later and were totally
hooked. "This is the most fun that I have ever had in my
life!" Gary has been heard saying throughout the pits..... |
